This presidio, or Spanish fort, was founded in 1721 and was moved twice finally ending up near the current city of Goliad. The main purpose of the presidio was the protection of the nearby mission,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mission_Nuestra_Se%C3%B1ora_del_Esp%C3%ADritu_Santo_de_Z%C3%BA%C3%B1iga\">Mission Nuestra Senora Del Espiritu Santo de Zuniga<\/a>.
